Review: DEAR AMERICA: ONE EYE LAUGHING, THE OTHER WEEPING: THE DIARY OF JULIE WEISS by Barry Denenberg

dear-americaCarmen Alexis from Carmen Alexis’ Book Talk recently posted a review of Dear America:  One Eye Laughing, the Other Weeping:  The Diary of Julie Weiss by Barry Denenberg.  Here is a snippet:

One of my favourite World War II books is the diary of Anne Frank but since I had already read that years ago, I wanted to find something like it. I was looking through a lot of books that my mom bought me years ago and found this one. Unlike Anne Frank, this book is fiction but I decided to give it a try anyways.  It’s a pretty short book and depicts a different type of WWII experience. In this case, Julie – the book’s diary writer – encounters grief through death in the family and witnessing the abuse of the Jews.
