fitzroymacleanMatt from Matt’s Book Blog recently reviewed Eastern Approaches by Fitzroy MacLean.  Here’s an excerpt:

Fitzroy Maclean was assigned to the Moscow embassy of the UK in the middle-1930s. He took three trips to Soviet Central Asia, with and without the approval of commisars, who were worried that Maclean would do exactly what he intended to do: keep his eyes open and report on what life was really like in the Soviet hinterlands.
