Return From the River Kwai by Joan and Clay Blair, Jr. is another book that did not receive a lot of attention from participants, but it seems like one that people should consider as the year nears its end.

Worthwhile Books said:

I accepted that as a challenge to recommend a book that I did not particularly enjoy. In fact, Return from the River Kwai, bothered me a lot. But it made me think, and think, and think some more. As I’ve said before, I enjoy World War II history that emphasizes heroism, patriotism, courage, etc., but I don’t particularly like the gory battle details.
