What a wonderful book.   I loved Vidya sneaking upstairs and reading Oliver Twist, Hans Brinker, Ivanhoe, Pride and Prejudice, The Mayor of Castorbridge and more.  I loved how Vidya defied all conventions that was expected of her.  She desperately wanted to go to college, she did not want to get married young, and she wanted to be treated as an equal with her male counterparts.

Nise’ from Under the Boardwalk (click for full review) said:

Vidya is a 15 year old girl living with her family in Bombay right before WWII. They are a close knit family and she thrives on her freedom.
