JUST BOOKS reviewed A Light in the Storm:  The Civil War Diary of Amelia Martin by Karen Hesse for the U.S. Civil War Reading Challenge 2011.  Here’s an excerpt:

This book is written in the format of a diary. Very easy to read and follow. It is the diary of Amelia. She lives and works in a light house on Fenwick Island. She loves her time at the lighthouse. Except for the fact her mother and father seem to not be getting along. Being in a state during the Civil War that is divided is also hard on Amelia. Amelia and her family don’t believe in slavery.
