Today’s Reading List reviewed American Scoundrel:  The Life of the Notorious Civil War General Dan Sickles by Thomas Keneally for the U.S. Civil War Reading Challenge 2011.  Here’s an excerpt:

While the use of the word “notorious” colors the reader’s view before reading even the first page of American Scoundrel, Keneally’s portrait reveals a man with a twisted sense of honor not at all unique to the time period – his sexual encounters were of no consequence to his mind, while his wife’s affair was an affront to his own honor.
