One Great War recently watched and reviewed the movie Oh! What a Lovely War for the WWI Reading Challenge in 2012. Here’s a snippet:
What I liked about this film were the songs themselves. They gave such a great sense of time and place. The settings, Brighton Pier in particular, were fascinating, and the surrealist element worked well, although I did feel preached to about how Haig and co viewed the war (and sold it to a generation of unsuspecting youths) as an entertaining afternoon outing.
